Hot Dog Hunting

Nanook here, to properly introduce you to the wild-game sport known as Hot Dog Hunting.

Now, the Hot Dog is a wily beast. Known to frequent shallow waters, he can be difficult to capture. Just when you think you have him cornered he bobs away under the water! He can dive as deep as three feet, only surfacing for air when the coast is clear. So if you want him, you're going to have to dive for him.

Look at my face in this picture. If you want to capture the Hot Dog, you must put on your GAME FACE and prepare to get your eyebrows very, very soggy. Because you're not going to get the Hot Dog by being afraid to get damp.

Take my word for it. Even the back of my head got soaked.

The first thing you will need, is to locate a Hot Dog breeding colony. We're lucky, we have one in our back yard. Eh Voila.

So, what you have to do is...BLEND INTO THE ENVIRONMENT. I disguised myself with water. Since the Hot Dogs live in water, covered in water myself I would be completely invisible to them.

Behold my incredible sneakiness:

Then you need to cautiously enter the hunting ground. Keep your nose low and level with the surface of the water. Let your whiskers skim the water, and stay always alert to the smell of the Hot Dog. Pick your target, and cull it from the herd using scare tactics. Alternatively, you can do what Pooka does, and wildly thrash and splash around with your gigantic muppet paws until all the Hot Dogs are so terrified that they flee to the shallows. In shallower water, they cannot dive deep enough to escape.

In the below picture, I have culled a young Hot Dog from the herd and am chasing it towards the little plastic steps, where I will make it my prey.

I herd it relentlessly towards the steps, where it will be most vulnerable.

A quick bite, and that is one Hot Dog pup that will never again know the joy of basking in the warm summer sun.

Ah, the sweetness of a successful hunt. Behind me Pooka struggles to emulate my tactics. Most Newfs are born knowing how to hunt the Hot Dog, but true mastery only comes from observing, and practicing.

In the below photograph, it is obvious that he was at least paying attention to my camouflaging technique.
He's got a good angle on the whiskers-to-the-water.

But this is one Newf that is going back to his den hungry. Perhaps the next time the hunt is attempted, he will have learned enough from observing me to be successful.

Nanook, You are so clever with the camoflage! We can't believe poor Pooks didn't get any. We've started to get pieces of ice cream sandwiches as treats! How Cool is that!

Hey Nanook! Wow..hotdog hunting looks wonderful! Did you by chance check Pooka's paw & footsie crevices? Lots of junk can get stuck between our toes...maybe thats where his hotdogs escaped to....doesn't hurt to check...finders keepers...pick out the toe jam though...hey..its still a hot dog, right? Currently, I'm a different form of that...Hot Dog I mean...its miserable here!

Oh, great Hot Dog Hunting Master, Nanook! May I sit under your tutelage and learn the art of the hunt? I'm willing to shave my head, wear a robe, whatever! I must learn the way of the Hot Dog.

Your Goober disciple,
Stanley

When we go to our annual Airedale event in October, they have hotdog competitions to see how many hotdogs you can eat in 1 minute! I bet you'd do very well!

Love ya lots,
Maggie

Nanook! We have never seen water-diving hot dogs in the wild. Sometimes we see them in the kitchen when mom puts them on that thing that gets really hot, but she doesn't let us stick our faces in and bob for them. We're wondering if maybe this is a different breed of hot dog? Who knows...but it sure looks fun.

How does one start their own colony of hot dogs? I have the pool, just need the critters. Bet my Uncle Diesel and cousin Bubba the labradors would LOVE to go hot dog hunting!
